Thing to do – Weekend Breaks in Sligo

Road Trip weekend break in Sligo

Drive from Dublin to Sligo is around 200 km and took around 2 hours 45 minutes. It may vary with the different locations you start your journey.

Drive route: Normal

Pro Tip: Take a short break in Carrick-on-Shannon. It is one of the smallest counties in Ireland yet beautiful. A quick walk around the town and a must glimpse to River Shannon can boost your travel energy.

Book an Escape family break Sligo

We want something for the entire family. A family consists of traveler mommy, relaxing daddy and discoverer Toddler. You can find always find last-minute deals or family breaks deals.

Reference: These are my reference website to book family breaks.,, and Groupon.

I book Clayton Hotel Sligo for my family, which is a perfect family break in Sligo. *Will review this place in detail in my next post.

Clayton Sligo

Things-to-do around family break Sligo:

Our visit in January, we avoided wild Atlantic way as its very windy and cold and limited to all water sports activities. Even thou Wild Atlantic way is a highlight in Sligo but we skip for summer time. We covered most of the places with the scenic drives which are perfect for winters or rainy days in Ireland.

Visit Tobernalt Holy Well  Sligo:

Small yet stunning place in Sligo. As you can judge by the name it’s a holy place. Even if you are not the religious person this place serves you with spiritual calmness inside you.  Water from the well is the clearest water I had seen in Ireland. My short drive from the Sligo city worth the visit.

Parke’s Castle / Lough Gill

Parke’s Castle is from 20 minutes from Sligo city center. Lough Gill Lake is just next to Parke’s Castle. This drive gives you an enchanted view of lough gill lake.

Pro Tip: Stunning view from St. Angela’s Campus towards Lough Gill Lake.

Glencar Lake

Glacier Lake is on the 15-minute drive from Sligo city center. In summers it offers Kayak Tours which is a must-to-do with a family.

Glacier Waterfall

One of the finest largest Waterfall of Ireland. It’s a beauty which can’t be defined in words.

Pro Tip: Very Easy to walk! Low level inclined towards Waterfall. Even my toddler hike himself.

Benbulben can only be seen in Sligo. Natural formation of the mountain by limestone. This is the rare type of table mountain in Ireland. You can hike, walk or drive to explore this place.

Gleniff Horseshoe Drive

Also known as magical Hills. No doubt it’s a magical place to drive. One of the best self-drive with unlimited beauty around you.

Pro Tip: Strat drive in a clockwise for a perfect finish.

This is our perfect Family break to Sligo for one Nigth and two full days. The entire trip is full of the beautiful scenic driveway. Our Toddler enjoyed waterfall scenic beauty and Irish sheep to the entire trip which eases our road trip.
